Install and first launch

Official Scroll installers are available from the Catalpas Atelier Download page. Supported platforms, architectures, and versions can change between releases; use the information shown in the Scroll section of that page.

Before you begin

Prepare:

  • a computer for which the Scroll section shows an available download;
  • a Catalpas Atelier account—Scroll requires sign-in, and Free is the basic signed-in plan; and
  • a local folder that you control and can write to. Do not place the only copy of a manuscript in a temporary folder.

Install Scroll

  1. In the Scroll section of the Download page, choose an installer whose Download action is available. A listed platform without a download action is not currently available for Scroll.
  2. Follow the standard installation steps for the selected package. For a macOS DMG, open it, drag Scroll into Applications, and launch it from that folder.
  3. If the operating system asks you to confirm the source or grant permission, verify the app name and download source before continuing. Do not disable system security controls to bypass a warning.

First launch

Scroll opens with a sign-in screen. After signing in, create a Project or choose an existing folder.

The first time you choose an ordinary folder, Scroll prepares it for Project features and asks Set up this project for Scroll? Select Create to enable templates, recoverable Trash, saved views, and other Project tools. Scroll does not create manuscript folders automatically or delete existing files.

Updates and reinstalling

Some minor updates may be available in the app. Updates that require a full installer direct you back to the Download page. Reinstalling the app normally leaves Project folders untouched, but back up active work before updating.

If Scroll does not launch

  • Confirm that the installer was available in the Scroll section and matches your operating system and processor architecture.
  • On macOS, copy Scroll fully into Applications instead of running it from the DMG.
  • If the installer appears damaged or cannot be verified, download it again from the official page.
  • If Scroll opens without usable content, continue with Sign in to Scroll.
