View settings

View settings apply only to the active Story saved view. They are stored separately from Global Settings, do not affect other saved views, and do not remove Project files that fail to match the view.

Open Configure view​

  1. Open Story.
  2. Select the saved view you want to change.
  3. Select the Configure view gear at the top.

You can also right-click a pinned view tab and select Configure view. See Saved views and controls to create, pin, duplicate, or delete a view.

Common settings​

Configure view can include:

  • Name, used on the tab and in Saved views;
  • Visualization, including Spreadsheet, Gallery, Calendar, Timeline, Gantt, Subway, Relationship graph, Map, Mindmap, Whiteboard, and Flowchart;
  • Filter mode and Filter value, based on a preset, category prefix, exact category, or tag;
  • Sort field and Sort direction;
  • Group by, with further controls in the left panel;
  • settings specific to the active visualization; and
  • Options JSON, an advanced representation of view settings.

Select Save when finished, then confirm that the view name, result count, and presentation are correct.

Filter, Group, Sort controls​

Use Filter, group, and sort controls in the narrow bar at the left of Story to add, enable, disable, or remove rules.

  • Filters determine which records are visible.
  • Group by determines grouping, lanes, or frames.
  • The sort field and direction determine record order.

These rules change only the current view's results and presentation. Filtered prose, cards, and events remain in the Project.

Visualization-specific options​

Options differ by view. For example:

  • Timeline uses scope, focus, scale, grouping, and card display;
  • Gantt uses hierarchy, unscheduled items, and related links;
  • Relationship graph uses layout, edge source, limits, and group frames;
  • Gallery uses avatars, summaries, tags, and category color;
  • Spreadsheet uses a bound template and visible columns; and
  • canvas views use node, connector, and canvas display settings.

If a field is missing from the expected place, verify that the record's category, properties, and relationships match the active rules before changing the view.

Save scope and edit safely​

Definitions, order, pinned state, filters, groups, sorting, and visualization options remain in the current Project. They do not move to another Project.

All built-in Story views and their standard settings are included with Free. Extending the field model with custom templates, properties, or relationships requires Pro; see Customize a Project model.

Before editing this advanced setting, duplicate the saved view. Invalid content or incompatible values can stop a view from loading, so use visual controls for ordinary configuration.
