Collect research, add citations, and search
References and Search help you answer where information came from and where it is used. Core reference cards and Project search are included with Free. Ordinary links to reference material require Plus, while bibliographies and citations require Pro.
1. Import a managed copy
When you import a supported file through References, Scroll copies it into a Project-managed location and creates a reference card. The external original is not moved, and later changes to it do not overwrite the Project copy automatically.
Add a title, tags, type, source description, and any copyright information you need to retain. When you open the imported file, you are opening the copy in the Project.
2. Link reference material
Plus and Pro can link prose or a card to reference material. A link describes an association. It does not create a citation or copy the reference content into the prose.
3. Search the Project
Begin with a keyword in Any, then narrow the results with Title, Body, Path, Category, Tags, and other available fields. After opening a result, verify its path so that you do not edit an older file with the same name.
4. Add bibliographies and citations
Pro can edit bibliography records, citations, and references blocks. Create a complete bibliography record first, insert citations into the prose second, and then confirm that the references block contains the intended sources. Importing a PDF by itself does not create a citation.
5. Move or remove research safely
Copy the complete Project when moving a research collection; copying only the external originals leaves the Project records behind. Before deleting a reference card or managed file, check links, citations, and backlinks, and keep a source list when appropriate.
