Custom fonts

Plan: Pro.

Scribe Pro can import OTF, TTF, and WOFF2 fonts for body text, headings, and other typography. Only import fonts that you are permitted to use and embed in the intended output.

Custom fonts are managed in Global settings and are available to Projects on the same computer.

Import a font

  1. In the left sidebar, open Advanced > Custom Fonts.
  2. Choose Import Fonts and select one or more .otf, .ttf, or .woff2 files.
  3. Review the detected family name and rename the family when needed.
  4. Add the Regular, Bold, Italic, and Bold Italic files that belong to the same family.
  5. Use the preview to check the available characters and styles.

On a plan that cannot import fonts, existing Project files remain in place, but you cannot add or change custom font families.

Use the font

After import, the family appears in supported font selectors, including Appearance and Master Page typography settings. Check normal, bold, italic, special-symbol, and CJK text before export.

Embed and license fonts

For EPUB, enable Embed fonts in EPUB when the font licence permits embedding. PDF and Word exports have their own font handling and should be checked separately.

Font licence

Confirm that the font licence permits the intended use, including embedding in a distributed file when applicable. If it does not, choose a font with suitable terms.

Missing characters

When a custom font does not contain a character, Scribe tries another available font. Inspect CJK text, symbols, bold, and italic in each final export. If a character is missing or visually inconsistent, use a font family that contains the required characters.
