Word (.docx) export

Plan: Plus or Pro.

Scribe can export the selected manuscript content as one .docx file. Open the result in Microsoft Word or another application that supports modern Word documents, then check it before handoff.

Export

  1. Select Print at the top of the preview pane.
  2. In the export-format control, choose Word (.docx).
  3. Choose the export range, such as the current document, selected files, or All Compilable.
  4. If needed, open the font control and choose which permitted fonts to embed.
  5. Choose Word (.docx) to export, select a destination in the system dialog, and save the file.

When several documents are selected, Scribe combines them in file-tree order.

What transfers

The exported document can preserve common manuscript structure and formatting, including:

  • source headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, links, lists, quotations, and code;
  • ordinary images placed in the manuscript;
  • page layout based on the active print settings;
  • Ruby as its base text;
  • editable Word equations for supported LaTeX math when Pro is available.

Scribe does not automatically create a title page or turn every document into a Heading 1 chapter. Add the desired title page and headings to the source before export.

Plan changes do not remove Ruby or math from the Scribe Project. If a feature is unavailable during one export, the original Project content remains available for a later export.

Review the file

Open the .docx and check:

  • heading levels and page breaks;
  • images and fonts;
  • equations, footnotes, endnotes, and other advanced content;
  • any requirements from the editor, agent, publisher, or submission service.

Word and Scribe use different layout systems, so page breaks and spacing may differ.

Bring a Word revision back into Scribe

Use File > Import Document… to import a .docx, or use Import Markdown file in the editor for a supported file. DOCX import is intended for common text structure. It does not reproduce images, table layout, comments, Track Changes, or native footnote and endnote structure.

Accept or reject tracked changes in Word first, save a clean copy, import it, and then recreate unsupported elements in Scribe. Keep a backup before replacing manuscript content.
