Left sidebar

The left sidebar is the main navigator for the current Project. It contains the Project header, action bar, file tree, Advanced section, and settings entries.

Project header​

The header shows the current Project and provides controls for the Project folder.

  • Rename project changes the name displayed in Scribe; it does not rename the folder on disk.
  • Reveal in folder opens the current Project folder in the system file manager.
  • Switch project folder opens a different Project.
  • New / open project folder (+) creates or opens a Project folder.
  • Search documents… filters the file tree by document title.

Action bar​

The action bar provides controls for common file operations:

  • select or clear items in the file tree;
  • New Document, New PDF insert…, and New Folder;
  • stitch, unstitch, merge, delete, or apply a Master Page to selected documents when those actions are available;
  • enable Split by # headings before importing a long source file;
  • open Import and choose Import files, Import folder, or Import project ZIP;
  • Export project as ZIP;
  • open Project settings.

File tree​

The file tree contains folders, documents, and PDF inserts. Drag items to reorder them or move them between folders.

Folder type controls whether its documents are included by default:

  • Manuscript — included in compilation by default;
  • General — excluded by default;
  • Ignore — always excluded.

Each document also has its own Included in compile or Excluded from compile control. Context menus provide actions such as rename, create a subfolder or document, change folder type, Save as Template…, Unlink from Template, and delete.

Advanced and settings​

Expand Advanced to open:

The bottom of the sidebar contains Global settings and Account. Features that are unavailable on the current plan show the required plan in the application.
